Our general manager, Claire Mason, caught up with The Yorkshire Post for the ‘On the Spot’ series, to talk about her ideal first job, and what she gets up to on a Sunday to prepare for a new week at Waterguard.

In case you missed the original article, you can catch up below.

What was your first job?

I worked in a local fish and chip shop when I was 14 — Friday nights were particularly manic!

If you weren’t in your current position, what would you be doing?

Probably putting my cinematography degree to good use, working in the film industry in some capacity.

What was your worst mistake?

I don’t call them mistakes, I see them all as life lessons — and I’ve learnt a lot in my time!

What is your ideal day away from the office?

Somewhere sunny and peaceful. I love bundling my children into the car for a day at the beach, and if the weather stays dry, that’s a bonus!

Name one person you would most like to have dinner with and why?

Boris Johnson — I’ve got plenty of questions to ask!

What was your best subject at school?

Mathematics — I sat my GCSE exam a year early and at the time I planned to become an accountant.

What are your hobbies?

Family time is my hobby. As a single parent — who also works full-time — I don’t really get the chance to do anything else.

What would you do if you won the Lottery?

A round-the-world trip — there are so many places I’d like to visit.

What’s your favourite item of clothing?

Ripped skinny jeans — they’re easy to throw on in a rush and go with everything.

What is your favourite time of day?

The first couple of hours in the morning when my kids and I spend time getting ready together before we venture out for the day.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and great-great-great-grandmother!
